For many of us, it is only routine to be able to take a shower, or brush our teeth, etc... But for Mark it is a real accomplishment. Much like the young child who eats solid foods for the first time, or takes his first step.
On Wednesday evening, Mark had a shower. The nursing home used a lift to put him in a geriatric tub so he could bathe. He felt so much better after being washed and having his hair clean. He is experiencing pain in his left hip and the lift didn't help his hip feel better.
He is having some difficulty feeding himself due to the food being a little out of his line of vision. He does like going to the dining room for meals. He has managed to brush his teeth, with a little help, after his evening meal. This is good.
The therapist gave his sister Chris some pointers on how to help him stay limber and strengthen his muscles. He is still experiencing left side neglect. We stand to his left to help him turn his head to the left. Also he is to practice turning his head to the left and then slowly bringing it back to the center. After about 5 repetitions, he does the same for his right side. He's still having difficulty seeing to the left of his midline.
