LTC Ombudsman

Another friend of Mark's just told me about John Weir - he is the Long-term care ombudsman (located in Kalamazoo) for a 5 county area. I forwarded this info to Laura's email also. You may want to try to contact him and give him the facts. His number is 373-5157. He said to keep trying if you fail to get him since he covers a 5 county area and is in/out of the office. He is very knowledgeable and a good person.

He mentioned writing to Tom George and Rep Jones - which I see you have done. He thought that Tom George (who either chairs or is on the appropriations committee) would be a good bet to help expedite a Medicaid decision. He suggested follow-up with phone calls to his office.

John thought for certain that Tendercare would be providing some sort of restorative therapy that is routinely covered in the per diem fees. He assumed the need must be for more specialized therapy?

There is a local/state grassroots organization called "Michigan Campaign For Quality Care". You might have an interest in talking to him about what that organization is trying to do.
