I see that I have been absent from this site for too long.
I am learning that Mark's stay at Tendercare is actually hindering his progress and recovery.
It is time to look for a more advantageous option for Mark.
In August, Brian asked that Mary Freebed go ahead and order the wheel chair that Mark had been fitted for. In October, I learned that Mary Freebed had not received the paperwork back from Tendercare. This paperwork turned up on a nurse's desk on October 15; the nurse gave it to me and asked me to send it to Mary Freebed to be sure that it got sent. This approval had been signed by Dr. Hanlon on September 5 - six weeks added on to the already six months that it takes to receive a wheel chair (possibly up to one year!).
Today, I learned that Mary Freebed is still waiting for other paperwork from Tendercare - now it is three months and Mark's wheel chair has not even been ordered! The loaner wheel chair that Mark uses is too small and too short - hence his reluctance to get in it and the reason for the pain when he is in the wheel chair.
There are other issues that have come about concerning Mark's care at Tendercare and his progress in therapy.
Medicaid authorized therapy (physical only) from 11-1-07 through 12-31-07. THIS IS THE LAST SESSION OF THERAPY THAT MEDICAID WILL PAY FOR.
As explained by the social worker at Tendercare, Mark is grieving for his former self and is still in denial of his limitations.
Because of this emotional state, Mark has not been ready to apply himself fully in physical therapy. He is coming around, but all too soon the therapy will be over, just when Mark is mentally able to accept where he is at right now in his life, and ready to tackle the long road that lies ahead of him.
During Mark's first therapy session (8-16-07 through 9-30-07), the physical therapists spent most of their time standing him up.
This session, he has been learning to sit up more in his bed and maneuver himself around, which should have been the starting point of his therapy.
It is time for a change in Mark's living condition - he may still be able to recover most of his movement, but he will not progress while he resides at Tendercare.
Any help, suggestions, ideas will be much appreciated.
And still visits to Mark are so important.
Mark is progressing and deserves a better life and a bright future.
I am going to contact John Weir about the lack of care and follow-up by Tendercare.
