January 11, 2008

Yesterday was an exciting day while visiting Mark as he was able to lift ever so slightly his left leg using the muscles from his hip. He said his quads are pretty sore from the many time he's lifted his leg. But this is a good sign. One can tell by the sheepish grin on his face how proud he is to accomplish this task. The leg stays straight and is a few inches off of the pillow used for support. Mark has changed his attitude and is attempting to do what he can to recover to whatever level possible.

Mark continues to enjoy his music therapy sessions. His music therapist is doing a fantastic job with Mark. He looks forward to having the sessions as music is important to him.

Range of motion therapy is being provided by the nursing home. The lack of any other aggressive therapy lies with the State and their non-approval of physical therapy. As stated earlier, Medicaid was only willing to authorize therapy until December 31, 2007. As the adage goes - "It's hard to fight city hall" - it is also hard to fight the state governmental system. We will persevere and overcome.

Continue your thoughts, prayers, cards and visits. Mark is very appreciative for all that anyone and everyone does for him.

May God bless you!

Laura
